More than 6200 people vaccinated in Lisbon’s Senior Residences.
The municipality of Lisbon announced on February 9, that the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 in Senior Residences in the city has already been given to 6,244 users and professionals in 126 equipment, with 3,173 people missing among 43 institutions.
According to the Diário de Notícias (DN): “In information sent to the Lusa agency, the municipality says that between 18 and 22 January, 5410 people received the first dose of the vaccine. Later, on 02 and 06 February, 844 users and professionals were vaccinated in 20 homes that recorded active outbreaks in the week of 18 to 22 January.”
The Lisbon City Council is now waiting “for the necessary technical conditions to be met, once the health authorities ensure that there are no active outbreaks, to proceed with the vaccination in the 43 missing homes, inoculating the remaining 3,173 elderly and professionals.”
The municipality said that “on each day of vaccination the doses of vaccine corresponding only to 80% of the people scheduled to be vaccinated on each of the days were withdrawn from health centers,” stressing that doses were given to members of the teams involved directly in the operation of inoculation of senior residences and similar, in compliance with the standards set by health authorities.
According to the DN, the whole vaccination process in Lisbon’s senior residences and similar, “is being coordinated by the municipal services of Civil Protection, Municipal Police, Urban Hygiene and Volunteer Firemen, in coordination with the three groups of health centers in the city (Central, Western and Northern).
The municipality also indicated that the second dose of the vaccine against covid-19, in Lisbon’s senior residences and similar, began last February 8.
According to the Directorate-General of Health’s epidemiological bulletin of February 20, this year, the covid-19 pandemic has caused 15,897 deaths in Portugal (8,299 men and 7,598 women) among 796,339 confirmed cases of infection. More than 695,000 cases of people recovered from this “disease that is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China” are recorded to date.
